Hansel and Gretel is a popular fairy tale of German origin. The best known version is the one told by the Brothers Grimm in their collection of folk tales published in 1812. It tells the story of a young brother and sister who outwit the witch who had taken them prisoner and how they escape her evil clutches. The piece shows Hansel and Gretel with some of the delectable sweets that drew the children to the witch’s little cottage, made of chocolate, cookies, cakes, and other appetizing candy treats, of all shapes and sizes.
